CAIRO
Whatever foreign currency you take with you into Egypt and
spend, it will stay there. The Egyptian government is
trying to make their dollar stronger against the rest of
the world's, so they don't release any foreign currency. As
crazy of a plan as it might seem, its actually working. Pay
with a credit card to avoid weakening your country's
dollar, or exchange cash when you get there. The choice is
yours!
Be prepared for poverty when you land in Egypt. The road
from the airport to the "tourist safe" regions of Cairo are
filled with unfinished sky-scrapers and giant holes missing
from the sides of buildings. I'm not saying Egypt is poor,
but it can look poor.
The pyramid light show is one of the least amusing
things you'll encounter while traveling through Egypt. Like
the locks in Panama, you'll have to do it just to say you
saw it, but don't expect much.
Taxis
prices can double or triple in price if you leave from a
hotel. To save money, walk to the nearest main street and
hail a cab from there. You'll still have to barter, but at
least the price of a ride should be friendlier to your
wallet.
