Climb to the top of the Church of the
Basilica. When you think you're at the top, keep
climbing. Through the clock. Up to the steeple. Go ahead,
ring the bells. When else are you going to get to wail on
church bells? Enjoy lunch (and bathrooms) on the way
down.
OTAVALO
You probably already know this, but the big market day in
Otavalo is Saturday. Yes, it technically goes every day,
but random days of the week are a fraction of what Saturday
will have. EVERYTHING; including the majority of shoppers
being the locals.
The animal market (Saturday mornings, as well), is not for
the faint at heart. It just in a field and can be dirty,
and there isn't much going on. Its still fun to see.
THE EQUATOR
Since the equator runs around the world, there
are several monuments to it. Some are small and
unimpressive, and some are extremely large and towering,
with exhibits to take your breath away. Know which one you
want to stop at before asking your driver to take you
there; they may take you to the incorrect one.
